No one wants to start a new year in the same old "rut" as the previous year!
And pastors... as we conclude all of the Christmas and Watch Night events of the 2018 and look towards preparing our congregations for the New Year and all that God has in store for them, it's so easy to neglect what God has for us!
As a pastor, I hit January with a bang this year!
God had opened doors to new opportunities I'd been praying about for years; His prophetic word for my congregation this year is exciting and I jumped into the new sermons with gusto - all with a refreshed anticipation for what God wants to do through my Church this year.
But personally, it took some time to catch up!
It seemed like I never quite completed all all wanted to do over the holidays; January slipped in and slipped out so quickly I never felt like I was recovered and refreshed for the new year and once February started, I felt like all I wanted was a vacation already!
I had to take a step back, slow down and renew my alone time with the Lord! And when I did, He reminded me to partake of that which I was excited to feed my congregation!
In just a couple of weeks I have listened to my own sermons; applied the Bible Study lessons to my own life and practiced all the daily encouragements I send to my members. And most of all, I remember to sing praises alone in the car again; to pray... and listen for the Lord to respond in the mornings when my family is still sleeping.
And I have reminded myself that while the Lord loves my church so much that He has made wonderful promises to the members for 2019; I am a member of it also - and His loving promises are for me too.
These few little changes have already made me a better person. And as a better person, I am already a better pastor.
Be a better YOU this year with me...
